Age verification by ID document decides age from the date of birth printed on an identity document, with the same capture and checks as KYC.

Where it runs

How it works

  1. The person photographs their document and takes a selfie.
  2. The document is checked as in Identity (KYC), and the selfie is matched to its portrait as in Face match.
  3. The date of birth is read from the document and the person’s age today is compared with the minimum age.
Because the age comes from the document, it is only as reliable as the document: the authenticity and face-match checks are what make it hold.

In the API and the webhook

A person under the minimum age is declined with verification.age_threshold.failed. The date of birth is returned by GET /v1/verifications/{id}/document, with the first and last name, the document number, the document type and the issuing country. Age workspaces do not receive the other fields. The webhook carries the same document object.

Reasons

Every document reason from Identity (KYC) also applies.

What the person is asked to do

Nothing beyond the document and selfie capture. An underage person is declined; there is no retry that could change a date of birth.
