A genuine document proves little if the person holding it is someone else. Face match compares the live selfie with the portrait printed on the identity document.

Where it runs

How it works

The portrait is found on the document’s front side and compared with the selfie. The comparison needs a usable portrait: when none is found, or it is too small, angled or covered, the person is asked to retake the document rather than being declined.

In the API and the webhook

A mismatch declines the verification with document.face.mismatch. Nothing else is returned: the similarity itself is not exposed.

Reasons

What the person is asked to do

Retake the document’s front side flat, in focus and without glare over the portrait, or retake the selfie facing the camera.
